Jason McKendree  - Banjo & Vocals

Jason brings  quiet confidence and amazing spirit to his music. He represents the low-key, traditional banjo picker with a strong thumb at first glance, but then he leaps  into “high gear” with  spontaneous,  eclectic variations that add a modernistic edge to his renditions.   He is unparalleled   in his knockout performances.   His strong  baritone resonates, adding a deep richness to  any harmonious blend.  Often taking the lead in favorites,  like Bob Dylan classics, his flair is a treat at every show. His talents were confirmed when he was awarded 2010 IBMA Emerging Artist with the Josh Williams Band.

Jason is a natural observer  with a keen analytical mind.  He searches for just  the right moment to integrate distinctive vibrations into his music.  As a sensational  vocalist, guitar player and banjo picker, he became intrigued by the bluegrass genre when exposed early to bluegrass-gospel music.  He learned the basics of great harmony singing with his nationally-acclaimed family band, The McKendrees, in Benton, KY.  His continued performances with them steadily built his musical expertise and undeniable popularity among his fans.  The McKendrees are widely known for their superb harmonies and inspirational work, so he had the good fortune to learn at the knees of the greatest.  With The McKendrees, he has recorded two popular projects, “Travelin’ Back” and “He Leadeth me.”

Jason has established himself as a man of character with leadership ability and strong core values.  As a prized member of the Josh Williams Band, he brings insight and solidarity, always  first to set an example.  When he decides to talk, everyone wants to listen. Very much the team player, he is triumphant in a double career, math and music, which testifies  to his motivation and focus.  He also manages product sales for JWB.
